Rock in Your Shoe, Episode 1
One day I was walking around our property picking up trash and doing chores and there was a little rock that had gotten into my shoe. I was aware of this annoying pebble but I kept on with what I was doing.
Ever so often I would kick my foot a little to try and shake the rock to the front of my shoe so I would not be walking on it.
This went on...all day. Finally something bubbled up from inside me where I literality said out loud "Stop, and get the rock out of your shoe!"
Immediately I was stuck by the significance of the statement and the fact that I had been avoiding the problem. I stopped what I was doing, took off my boot and dumped out the rock. When my boot was back on I walked to the house, grabbed my pen and journal and let this poem flow out.
Rock in Your Shoe
And get the rock out of your shoe.
You know what it is that you need to do.
Yet you keep on walkin round like its all alright,
trying to keep the pain in your foot out of sight.
Trying to walk normal while keeping limping to a minimum,
Trying to force a smile, hoping one day to win again.
But that’s not how to win, that's not how to grow.
Will ignoring the problem find a solution?
So stop. And get the rock out of your shoe.
Your not meant to carry the heaviness around you.
Although you can walk, it keeps you from running,
It keeps you from jumping,
It keeps you from loving.
The thing that’s on your mind is the rock in your shoe.
That is the filter you live your life through.
But filters block light, they hold back illumination.
You can still see to move but are hindered in germination.
You know, the process of developing and breaking free,
Sprouting from the darkness out of the shell you used to be.
Growing to new heights and reaching unknown potential.
Leaving behind your cage of provincial.
But first, stop. And get the rock out of your shoe.
It’s holding you back from what you could do.
With the rock gone, your mind will be free.
Anything is possible, just breathe.
